I have seen various images on the Net but I don't know how to translate it in Italian

and it is obviously foldable. (So Silvia's version would be perfect). But on the other side there is le Corbusier's sling chair which is called "sedia" and which is not foldable at all. Only the upper part can be adjusted.

Hi Monica, hi all. I think that the translation it's tricky. THe problem is that there is no "general" traslation for "sling chair". Let's take the Ferrari-Hardoy Botterfly chair. In Italian architectural texts it is called "poltroncina Butterfly"

Just to answer Mary Carrol's questions: the text is about design chairs. The general term is used to describe any "sling chair" from 1877 (when the first one was patented) to Ferrari-Hardoy chair.

dovendo rimanere sul generico, non credo esista un termine preciso in italiano come in inglese, ma si potrebbe mettere qualcosa tipo 'sedia tipo sdraio o pieghevole dotata di imbracatura'. non so, un suggerimento. ciao!

per esempio, anche la famosa sedia di cavallino di Le Corbusier (che ha lo schienale basculante, ma nulla di pieghevole o 'sdraievole') viene chiamata "sling chair" - hth

credo che non siano necessariamente né sdraio né pieghevoli, ma che siano tutte quelle sedie/poltroncine/... con la seduta e lo schienale costituiti da "imbracature" o "fasce" di stoffa o di pelle montate su tubolari o simili - ma non so come si chiamino

Una piccola precisazione per Maurizio! La sedia pieghevole non è necessariamente una sdraio! Se fai qualche ricerca in Google immagini del termine in inglese vedi che raramente compare la sedia a sdraio classica. Cerca anche "sling chair sedia".

Anche io avevo pensato a sedia pieghevole. In realtà non ho molto contesto. Nel testo si dice solamente che la prima "sling chair" fu brevettata nel 1877.

agree martini : nel probabile testo dell'asker si dice anche They are still popular today and are commonly found in stores selling casual outdoor or camping furniture, per cui tripolina è troppo specifico, sedia pieghevole va benissimo

agree BdiL : Sedia pieghevole non è sbagliato, ma idiomaticamente e nell'uso se uno dice s. a sdraio o sedia sdraio o anche solo "una sdraio" si pensa subito a quella sedia pieghevole LUNGA. ;-) Maurizio

Dal dizionario: "to sling: 11. to raise, lower, etc., by such means. ". Quindi reclinabile è giusto. La sling chair di Le Corbusier (già sopra menzionata) è reclinabile ma non pieghevole.

Ho trovato la seguente definizione sul dizionario:

sling chair
–noun any of several varieties of chairs having a seat and back formed from a single sheet of canvas, leather, or the like, hanging loosely in a frame.
Ora come renderla in italiano? Io propri onon saprei.

altrimenti consiglierei do non tradurre sling, visto che nel mondo del design è un chiaro riferimento. Forse 'poltroncina sling'...
