Hi everyone
I am translating a manual that refers to the software interface of PC-DMIS. The meaning of "characterstic" is clear: its is a geometric component of a "feature" (geometric shape) that has been measured. E.g. a characteristic of a cube is a plane. It think "Eigenschaft" or "Komponente" could do it, but I don't know what term is used in the German version of the software and couldn't find anything on the web. Anyone happens to know?
Here is an example sentence:
"Using one of the following methods, select a line or a feature with a line characteristic:"
Ulrich

This is not for all the details mentioned. -
It just is the most usual De term for "characteristic" in technical texts.

Note from asker:
Thanks, Roland. As I understand it "Merkmal" corresponds to "dimension", which is in fact a measure (Kenngröße): flatness, straightness etc. are supposed to be "Merkmale". The "characteristics" I am looking for are (strangely) lines, points or planes. |

: you are right + e.g. mit "kritische(n) Merkmale" hatte ich häufig zu tun, cf. www.vda-qmc.de/fileadmin/redakteur/gelbdrucke/VDA_1_Gelbdru... www.quality.de/quality-forum/2005/messages/24826.htm

(Ich habe auch dort gefragt, nur leider ist das Forum fast tot.)
Wenn jemand den gängigen Begriff aus der Metrologie kennt, wäre mir damit aber wohl auch gedient.
