English term

lowly grunt

English to Spanish Other Games / Video Games / Gaming / Casino Video Games
"lowly grunt" is a level, presumably really low, in video games, opposed to Spymaster.
We are looking for a good informal translation for this from someone with a good feel for these games. The expression is commonly used in different video games and differs according to each game. We'd like to find something informal and as neutral as possible here. Thanks

carne de cañón

No sé si te servirá, pero es una expresión extendida en el lenguaje de la calle que deriva de su uso en jerga militar para designar a la tropa de más bajo rango...

carne de cañón.
1. f. Tropa inconsideradamente expuesta a peligro de muerte.
2. f. coloq. Gente ordinaria, tratada sin miramientos.

un simple soldado // un soldadito cualquiera

The key here is "differs according to each game". I assume there will be games in which the "soldier" meaning will not fit.

From Merriam-Webster's:
GRUNT
4 a : a United States army or marine foot soldier especially in the Vietnam War b : one who does routine unglamorous work -- often used attributively <grunt work>

From Wikipedia:
# slang for an infantryman
# Grunt (G.I. Joe), an infantryman in the G.I. Joe universe

In games

Many games use the "simple soldier" meaning:

* a Covenant enemy in Halo: Combat Evolved (see The Covenant (Halo)#Grunts)
* a Warcraft orcish warrior
* the simplest unit in the video game Z (computer_game)

peón

"Soldado raso" is a nice option, but it is restricted to a military context and it would rarely oppose to "spymaster".

More neutral possibilities with the same informal tone would be: "machaca", "mandado", "agentillo"... All of them meaning "someone who performs routine or mundane tasks" at the orders of someone else.

But I think the best, the most neutral and the most versatile one is "peón", meaning among other things: common or unskilled worker; laborer; wage-earner; infantry soldier; agent and pawn (in chess).
