The text is describing an artist's exhibit, perhaps in Marseille, it never really says so openly. The works are based on the subject of the death penalty (in the USA). Here is the sentence:
"Pour son exposition à smp, (the artist X) a décidé de parler de la mise à mort de XXX(criminal) et de l'attente de XXXX(another criminal), tous deux condamnés par la justice américaine."
"smp" is not capitalized, and I haven't found anything except "sol mur plafond" that might be the name of a gallery...

You've found it all by yourself: did indeed find a non-profit organization call \\\"smp\\\" on yahoo.fr and it is in Marseille.
The absence of capitals could well be just a question of taste to make the organization look more \\\"à gauche\\\" by flouting grammatical convention.
