the chief chairholder

At the UNC (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba-Argentina) "cátedras" are reffered to as "chairs". The word "chief" shows hierarchy over others; professors in this case. This is backed by one of the definitions for chair given by the Collins Cobuild English Dictionary.
