Bengali term

pari

Non-PRO Bengali to English Other Other
I found the song with translation:

Bolbo na akasher chad ene debo,(i won't say i will bring u da moon from
da sky)
bolbo na tumi rajkonna,(i won't say u r da princess)
shudhu jiggesh kori,(i will only ask)
debe ki pari hok joto jhor bonna,(would u go with me wheather there is
storm , flood)
amar choto tori bolo,(i got a small boat ,tell me )

i don't understand for what the word pari serves in the sentense debe ki pari hok joto jhor bonna (দেবে কি পাড়ি হোক যত ঝড় বন্যা)

Set voyage

oh the little boat of mine please say,
would you set a voyage in spite of storms and floods?

********
set voyage = paari deoa (bengali)= paar lagaanaa (hindi)
Peer comment(s):

disagree Arijit De : Exactly Paar Lagana and Pari deoa are two different terms. Hindi term paar lagana means bound the boat. For example : cholo nao paar lagaana hay.

If you take it lirarily it should be "paar honaa" or "par karnaa". the actual term should be "nikal padnaa' for "pari deoa". But is it not out of context? Is it enough cause to be disagree?
agree Java Cafe : True, "pari" is not "paar lagaana." But, Keshab, the Hindi was unnecessary here. The Bengali portion is just fine! IMHO, Mr. Dey didn't need to subtract a point here, especially as a co-responder.

Thank you
disagree Md Abu Alam : I think "set voyage" is a verb and noun is "setting voyage". However, "setting voyage" can't express পারি as we need to express the sense of completeness here.

would you like to go away

Exactly here the poet is telling about his Boat. This boat is his life and love and his partner.

Pari is a commonly used word in Bengali. In Bengali it can also said as " তুমি কি যেতে চাও" . This can translated as "would you like to go away" .

It will be better if you translate the last line as:
Oh! my little boat, tell me.

Note from asker:
thank you for your help, but from your explanation i've understood only that pari is a commonly used word in Bengali. but how it is exactly translated in this sentense? is it a noun or a verb or adverb or what?

completing voyage or journey

Here পারি is a noun, not a verb. So the English for the word would be completing voyage or journey. The translation would depend on the context. For example, translation of "আমি পারি দেব" is "I'd complete the voyage."
Peer comment(s):

agree Quamrul Islam : I would render it as follows: পারি দেওয়া => to complete a journey, to cross a river or sea etc. In this song, দেবে কি পাড়ি হোক যত ঝড় বন্যা would mean > would you like to go with me on a sea voyage defying all storms and surges.
