In the majority of the technical dictionaries that I have, it would have to be "drained" and simply does not make sense.
However, in Routledge, Spanish Technical Dictionary, it has two definitions for "sanear":
(agua) cleanse; (construction) drain
Possibly the veneer has to be cleansed, at least that is what I am imagining.
