neutral Emma Paulay : But doesn't landlocked suggest there's no coast? The CFCO is a rail link to/from the coast of Congo.//Well, exactly - that's my point! The text is about a country that does have a coast and I believe you're suggesting using a term that means "no coas

neutral B D Finch : Like Kansas or Colorado? Nothing in the question to suggest that not having a sea coast is the main factor in these areas' isolation.

neutral Graham macLachlan : I think "landlocked" has got to be over-translation; a few years ago I translated some stuff which talked of "désenclavement" for the department of Manche whose coastline is enormous, probably the longest of any mainland French department

disagree liz askew : Nothing about landlocked countries. This is about regional and national level.//Also "landlocked" is totally redundant, IMHO.

To break national as well as regional landlockings

"Enclavement", landlocking, is a geographical feature: it is a form of isolation, but it is not isolation by itself.
A country can be deeply isolated without being necessarily landlocked (Erythrea), or landlocked without being totally isolated (Burkina Faso).
Therefore my proposal...
In my understanding, I see most translations suggested until now as applying to the consequences of unlocking, rather than to the very fact of unlocking.
NOTA: I'll be most interested by all possible comments...
