Glossary entry (derived from question below)
German term or phrase:
Temperaturüberhöhung
English translation:
temperature rise, temperature increase
German term
Temperaturüberhöhung = by increasing by a maximum of [...]?

The strongly non-uniform loss distribution within the coils leads to a high local temperature rise, which stresses or even harms the winding insulation.

5.3 Engineering of the power dissipation in cabinets
When electronic devices are integrated in cabinets free air movement is restricted and the temperature rises. To minimise the temperature rise it is important to optimise the power dissipation as well as the elimination of the produced heat inside a cabinet.

A series of tests is being conducted to explore various methods for economically controlling the temperature within small metal cabinets housing telephone equipment. Initial tests focus on measurement of the temperature rise in unventilated cabinets as a function of internal heat load, outdoor ambient conditions and the use of internal air circulating fans.

UL tests
Temperature-rise
UL have carried out tests on complete switchboards up to 5000A. The temperature-rise did not exceed 65K with tin plated copper bars or 50K with none plated copper bars. Likewise, the temperature-rise in motor starter units did not exceed maximum limit.

It's about a temp. difference between two things, not a "rise" in temp. of one.//Then you'll agree "rise" is wrong.

You could also say something along the lines of "temperature differential," even though that doesn;t indicate which way the difference goes, up or down.

Yes, the ambient temp is the one outside the Schrank. The Innentemperatur is inside the Schrank. We are in agreement!

: I read it to mean that the temperature inside the Schrank is only supposed to be a max.XX degrees higher than the environment around it. Therefore I would put in something like 'does not exceed the temperature of the environment around the Schrank by XXX.

: Wouldn't excessive mean "too" high? Here they're takling about the allowed temperature BEFORE it becomes too high (i.e. before it exceeds a certain temperature). // common yes, but not correct in the context, IMO

Yes, it´s too high with respect to the set temperature threshold (at which regulation starts) - not with respect to the acceptable component temperature. The term suggested is correct in this context - and common.

Discussion
then
excessive temperature = +66°C??

@Blaess: IMO "Überhöhung" implies some sort of increase, and "excessive temperature" is rather the end result.

IMO it means "to remain within a certain distance of"
