Spanish term

"fase de maniobras"

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation wind turbine fire protection system
text from Spain detailing the working of a fire extinguishing system. This part refers to when the programmed levels of smoke particles in the air have been exceeded and the system goes "into action". Obviously, "manouevre phase" won't do, but what will? "Operational phase", "preparation phase"? Here's the context and TIA!

shutdown/shutting down phase

I think this would be suitable in this context, given the following description in your text which is referring to shutdown of the netilation system and also a power shutdown:

See this link too, http://www.canadawaybp.com/manual_phase1/FireManual/part06.h... (just under halfway down the page):

Smoke Control: Smoke Control:
Upon alarm activation, all fans shut down.

agree cranesfreak : Agree shutdown or shutting down phase (or stage). Normal shutdown procedure is to run ... www.chemetron.com/utcfs/ws-5230/Assets/Bltn0060.pdf Saludos:))

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "many thanks to all, but this fits the context best - thank you Clare! ;-)"

Preparatory stage

I think this is one of those occasions where you need a rewrite rather than a literal translation (as you said yourself, manouvre phase sounds very odd!). From the context you've provided I'd therefore suggest using 'Preparations' for 'Maniobras' followed by 'preparatory stage' for 'fase de maniobras'.
Peer comment(s):

agree Kathleen Misson : I think this works too.

deployment phase/stage/mode

One of these options might work...

Cheers :)
Peer comment(s):

agree Richard Boulter : 'Deployment', as opposed to the 'dormant/stand-by' stage while waiting for an event to occur that requires fire protection. The 'deployment/manouvers' relationship is more clearly associated in military jargon, but I see a good translation in this context

Thanks very much Richard, my sentiments exactly! I definitely feel this involves more the 'actions' involved in preparing the extinguishing system, as opposed to just 'preparing' it :)
