English term

William the Wanker

May offend English to Portuguese Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Alguém se lembra de alguma forma de manter a analogia? Só me lembro de William, o Walkie-Talkie.

Obrigada pela ajuda.

Fernando Domeniconi Jan 24, 2010:
Acho que não se deve remover a questão... é como a Paula disse: está no material e deve ser traduzido/abordado.
Marlene Curtis Jan 24, 2010:
Susana Estava prestes a sugerir o termo "babaca", mas não sabia se é usado em Portugal.
Susana Valdez (asker) Jan 24, 2010:
Eu vou optar por Ian, o Imbecil; inspirada pela a sugestão da Marlene (se pudesse optar por Babaca - acho que era excelente) e da Paula.
Marlene Curtis Jan 24, 2010:

Marlene Curtis Jan 24, 2010:
Wanker Has many meanings.

Someone that thinks they're 'cool' but in reality is a total knob jockey.
A smug, satisfying real English term to call someone you intensely dislike without resorting to the word "cunt"!

He persisted on calling our game 'soccer' when it's really football. What a wanker
Susana Valdez (asker) Jan 24, 2010:
I'm sorry Amarante. This term appears in a renown literary book that is sold in every common bookshop. I'll ask one of the moderators to remove the question. By the way, the term means, among other things, "pedante, arrogante, presumido" and that is not offensive I believe.
Paula Vaz-Carreiro Jan 24, 2010:
Amarante beat me to the explanation But I don't agree that it is improper for this forum. After all, this is about translation, and one may be asked to translate anything :-)
Paula Vaz-Carreiro Jan 24, 2010:
@Susana: Do you know what wanker means? :-) It is quite a rude word, so you might want to find the equivalent rude word in PT. Depends on the audience...

amarante dasilva Jan 24, 2010:
improper term i think that this is an improper term for this forum...it's an overt sexual slang denoting solitaire masturbation and should be placed in its proper forum
Susana Valdez (asker) Jan 24, 2010:
Para ser franca, não tenho a certeza. Mas creio que é possível alterar. Estou aberta a sugestões...

Obrigada pela ajuda.
Precisa manter o nome William? Se não precisar, tenho sugestões.

Wiliam, o punheteiro

Desculpem a palavra, mas em calão grosseiro é assim que se traduz "wanker", significando alguém que não consegue fazer nada de jeito, atraso de vida, em português de Portugal...
