Is crossing at a red light allowed in London?
I'm new to London and so far I've NEVER seen anyone waiting for the green light at a crosswalk. I'm always the only person waiting for the green light. Everyone else is crossing at red.

beat the red light
Bardziej potoczne, częściej używane o kierowcach, chyba dużo rzadziej o pieszych, chociaż też spotkałem.
"The Ambulance increased the intensity of its siren and the truck moved forward at the red light, somehow I got compelled to give way, thus I beat the red light to give way to the ambulance."
"So, when there are no cars passing by or crossing in the small streets, I would beat the red light whenever I'm crossing. I would usually cross in the area away from the pedestrian crossing, not directly where the light is situated across."
