Norwegian term

fargressurs

Norwegian to English Bus/Financial IT (Information Technology)
As in "leverandøren plikter å holde sine fagressurser adekvat oppdatert på lover, regler og alminnelig teknisk utvikling". The trouble is 'fag-', which could be trade, field, skill, profession and a bunch of others. I'm leaning towards vocational resources, which gets 68,000 G-hits and sounds about right - but just about. Anyone got a better idea?
Other similarly tricky fag-terms (OK, I know) include fagdag, fagperson, fagområde, fagforum, fagmessig, while fagforening seems firmly established as trade union. I can't se trade working in all these cases, though.

Discussion

William [Bill] Gray May 31, 2010:
To be sure... ... to be sure, we wouldn't have responded if you weren't our friend! We IGNORE those who are not.
Per Bergvall (asker) May 31, 2010:
Can't even get sympathy? And here's me thinking we're friends and all...
William [Bill] Gray May 31, 2010:
And here's me thinking.... ...that "colour resources" was a new element in the software in ink-jet printers! You could lead a poor lad astray with this kind of error, Per me lad! :)
Per Bergvall (asker) May 31, 2010:
Fagressurs - Can't believe the typo. I'm sure y'all understand, though.

professional resources

You'll get no sympathy from us English translators over this, Per, as this is a challenge we meet almost on a daily basis, and one for which there is no one-to-one solution. It totally depends on the context. And in this context, I would definitely not recommend "vocational". I would recommend "professional" here because it covers such a wide spectrum, as implied in your example.
Peer comment(s):

agree William [Bill] Gray : I frequently use this one where the context is wide enough. Agree with your "non-sympathy" for the poor English speaker :)

Thanks, Bill. Hey - don't make it sound like we're ganging up on him :-)

technical resources

Yet another suggestion, "colored" by my own experience. :-) See the first link for Google hits on "technical resources" + update OR updated OR trained. The second reference link is the web site of a firm named "Technical Resources" that provides engineers on a contract basis.
