Maghreb
Maghrib, refers to the five countries constituting North Africa (not to be confused with Northern Africa). It is an Arabic word, literally meaning "place of sunset" or "the west" (from an Arabian perspective). The term is generally now used, mainly by Arabs, to refer collectively to the African countries of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania and the disputed territory of the Western Sahara.

the maghreb, northwestern arab-african countries
Often, native English speakers refer to Arab countries west of Egypt and Sudan as "The Maghreb". Much to the same affect as Syria and Lebanon often being referred to as the Levant.
That said, one can broadly used "the maghreb" as adapted from Arabic, or refer to this region equally as northwestern arab-african countries, seeing as they are both in africa, but also (largely) Arabic-speaking.
