French term (edited): traverse

rail

I believe this is the technical term for horizontal members in door and gate construction (the companion term is 'stile').

If you prefer something less technical in register, then I would suggest

'cross member'

as an alternative

in the diagram, the 2 diagonal bars and the additional central upright bar are called "braces" - presumably because they help to hold the other bars in position.

crossbeams

Another term for "traverse" used in post and rail style fences
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : But I have a doubt, since here we are not tlaking about 'post-and-rail' fences, but rather, the construction of gates.

cross bracings

When a column or post has to be done, it is done by using vertical members strengthened by cross members or bracings. It can be either of steel or wood

I would like toadd that bracings are a part of a column or post required to attain the necessary rigidity and is a part of the column or post, which is absolutely necessary.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : But again, these aren't really supplemental elements performing a bracing function, but rather, fundamental components of the construction.
