To Mr. Hikmat He can call them "الشيوخ الموقرين" with great confidence and I bet that none of them shall feel "marginalized". ;)

Someone asked what is in use in the US. The answer is simply as the questioner had posted, and he's based in the US: Senior Citizens. It is the term, and probably the only term, used in both the US and Canada.
libhf (asker) Oct 14, 2010:
Thank you all for your answers and translations, which are all great. However, I am looking for 'political correctness' so when the client addresses the community of seniors, he can do so with confidence that they will not feel somewhat marginalized. I refer to the useful links given by Ali who seems to address the issue. The bottom line is, it is very difficult to find a term that does not exceed too many words while keeping the meaning.

شكرا جزيلا
disagree Riadh Muslih (X) : In the west, simply put: it refers to persons who have reached a certain age to be called seniors. It has no relations to their place/status in society, or if they were retired.

Avoid PC contortions; use honorific terms of address: Saadaatii wa saidaatii al-aza'

Greetings... ahalan wa sahalan...

Avoid PC affliction and contortions about references to [ahem] senior persons' ages (using "senior citizens" is awkward enough in the English, before one has to struggle with creating an equivalent in the Arabic).

OK for the speaker to address the audience with these suitable honorifics: Saadaatii wa saidaatii al-3zaa'

أيها ساداتي و سعيداتي الأعزاء

Hope this helps. Khair, in shaa' Allah.
