Spanish term

de sección compatible con

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
From a text on switchgear and control cubicles:

Los embarrados están dimensionados en cobre electrolítico, de sección compatible con la corriente nominal de proyecto y fijadas para soportar los esfuerzos dinámicos y térmicos resultantes de la máxima corriente de cortocircuito especificada.

Not sure how to phrase "section" in this sentence - "with a section that is compatible"?

Discussion

riafontes Nov 4, 2010:
I do not see the difference. The cross section of a wire is proportional to the diameter and the thickness is directly correlated to the diameter and the cross section so we are talking about the same thing. In electrical terms normally the wire has a number which defines the thickness. I think it is for Sherry to decide which one she prefers as she has the last word.
Herbie Nov 4, 2010:
cross section(al area) instead of thickness / diameter!

with a compatible thickness (or diameter) with

The wire electrical resistance varies according to the thickness of the wire. A bigger diameter allows more electrical current
