However standing mr X's view on causation

English to French Law/Patents General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Letter regarding a court case
"However standing mr X's view on causation, this would not appear to be a claim of substantial value."
The phrase is taken from a letter a sollicitor wrote to his client.
A medical expert has been instructed. His conclusions are that the defender won't be awarded as much damages as they're asking for because causation is difficult to establish in this case.
I do not understand the meaning of "standing" here.

Typo? Looks like a typo / scanno / spell-checker error for 'notwithstanding'?

It might help if we knew a bit more of the context: who is 'Mr X', is he the medical expert, or the victim? I read the situation as being that Mr X. is the victim, and so this is saying that "despite his own views on the matter, ..."

stand·ing n.
1. a. Status with respect to rank, reputation, or position in society or a profession; b. High reputation; esteem: a person of standing in the community.
2. Continuance in time; duration: a friendship of long standing.
3. Law The right or capacity to initiate a suit.
4. The act of one that stands.
