German term

verschieden

German to English Science Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng Pharmaceutical testing
I know that "verschieden" means "different" or "separate"... or "distinct"?
How do any of these fit in the sentence. Pearlitol and Nutriose are chemical compounds...
Do they mean that they were added seperately? well, of course...

Thank you.

Benetzungsversuche mit Condrosulf

Es wurde der Inhalt von einer Condrosulfkapsel im Mörser verrieben.

***Danach wurden verschieden Pearlitol und Nutriose zugefügt und ebenfalls
verrieben. *** Anschließend wurde solange Polysorbat dazugetropft bis das
Pulver zu sticky wurde oder die Benetzung gelang.

Thank you, Johannes Yes, sometimes words and groups of words are missing... But I will have to guess what the writer is trying to say...
Johannes Gleim Jun 4, 2011:
verschieden ? could mean "unterschiedliche", "unterschiedliche Mengen" (different amounts). Something is missing in any case.
Zareh Darakjian Ph.D. (asker) May 31, 2011:
Thank you, J. Peter Milekamp for your input and the reference.
J. Pieter Mielekamp May 30, 2011:
Kapsel / Capulse or Capsules (plural) This is what I found on a Austrian site (in German):

"Ihr Atz hat Ihnen Condrosulf 400 mg-Kapseln zur Behandlung Ihrer Krankheit verordnet." (Your doctor subscribed you Condrosulf 400mg-Capsels)".

"1 Kapsel enthält 400 mg Natriumchondroitinsulfat"

"Packungsgrößen:
30, 50 und 180 Stück" (capsels)

It is meant to treat "(Arthrosen)": arthrosis or arthroses

Thank you, Bernhard. I am not a German expert, but even I can say that the text does not seem to be written by a native German. Something funny about the whole thing... I would also think that probably the writer had what you said "unterschiedlichen" in mind.. but alas, not on paper.
Bernhard Sulzer May 28, 2011:
grammar the grammar is at least questionable; "verschieden" - without ending - only works as an adverb (in several or different ways/ variances /amounts etc.). Even then, I would expect it as "werden Pearlitol und Nutriosein in unterschiedlichen Dosierungen (in varying/differing amounts/dosages etc.)" hinzugefügt.
Could there be something missing (OCR or other copying mistake?)
Zareh Darakjian Ph.D. (asker) May 27, 2011:
Thank you, Peter. may be several caplets of ... ? since "Kapsel" is mentioned in the text elsewhere...
J. Pieter Mielekamp May 27, 2011:
Several Danach wurden verschiedene...
Zareh Darakjian Ph.D. (asker) May 27, 2011:
Thank you, Horst.. A likely possibility... I think the source is kind of terse, omitting too many words here and there... I know that German has some of that built into it's idioms, but I don't think this is idiomatic German either...

Horst Huber (X) May 27, 2011:
Variant doses might be the idea. I find it hard to say, is it supposed to be varied in different cases, combinations, or other circumstances?
Zareh Darakjian Ph.D. (asker) May 26, 2011:
Thank you, Inge. That's a possibility.
Inge Meinzer May 26, 2011:
Hi Zareh, keeping in mind dosage, my thought is that they are talking about having added varying amounts of Pearlitol and Nutriose.
