German to English Medical Medical: Instruments Orthopedics

This is from a press release about an orthopedic equipment trade fair.

Zahlreiche Neu-Entwicklungen in der Orthopädie lassen aufhorchen. An dieser Stelle sind laut Dr. XXX, „Individualknieendoprothesen mit allem für und wieder, Wegwerfinstrumente wie Hüftraspeln, intelligente Halter und ihre Fortentwicklung für das personalsparende und auch teils schonende Operieren zu nennen.

We've had this word before in a medical context:

but I don't think it has the same meaning this time. I've come across " holder" and "retainer" as possible translations, but I don't know whether they're correct.

And why would they be "personalsparend" and "schonend"?

Elsewhere, the text talks about "intelligente Implantate", intelligent implants, containing electronics that provide doctors and patients with feedback about the implants' effectiveness.
