Spanish term

PP

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) intravenous medications
This abbreviation appears in a doctor's medication order for a patient being admitted to the hospital from an emergency department:

10. DOPAMINA 800 MG EN 200 CC DE D/A AL 5% *PP* IV A RAZON DE 15 CC POR HORA.

So, our patient is going to get 800 mg of dopamine in 200 cc of D5W [5% dextrose in water] "PP" intravenously at 15 cc per hour.

What is "PP" in this context? That is, what do the letters stand for in Spanish and how do we say this in English?

(I see that I've already asked another PP question here, but that was "presión parcial" in relation to arterial blood gases)

This is a hospital in Panama, since KudoZ is asking me for more context.

Thank you Sam!
agree Cynthia Coan : So based on Liz's info. PP must be perfusión periférico = periferal infusion. If so, the PP puzzle has been solved. :-)

In this instance

1) I would check with the client

2) or put a footnote with the various possibilites.

This is not self-evident to me at all:) Where are the docs?

Another important point

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:xkklxng...

Extravasation:
Dopamine HCl should be infused into a large vein whenever possible to prevent the possibility of infiltration of perivascular tissue adjacent to the infusion site. Extravasation may cause necrosis and sloughing of surrounding tissue. Large veins of the antecubital fossa are preferred to veins in the dorsum of the hand or ankle. Less suitable infusion sites should be used only when larger veins are unavailable and the patient's condition requires immediate attention. The physician should switch to a more suitable site as soon as possible and the infusion site in use should be continuously monitored for free flow.

--------------------------------------------------

so

the antecubital fossa is the preferred site for Dopamine infusion

and this is known as "peripheral infusion".

so my vote is for

peripheral

but I would have this checked out!

Happy holiday! lucky you...
Note from asker:
Thanks Liz for all the research -- which I don't have time to read this morning!!. Delivering this in 20 minutes and then leaving for a 2-day holiday, so I'll use this version and study the details when I get back. I also learned, btw, from feedback from a proofreader, that perfusión in Spanish = infusion.
