Spanish term

"La problemática del asma infanto-juvenil"

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
It's a paper about public health, and the phrase I'm posting is set as a tittle for a chapter, so the phrase is isolated.
I've found different terminologies to say it, but I'm not quite sure which is the proper one.
Could you help me?
TIA

Muriel Vasconcellos Jul 13, 2011:
'Child' can include adolescents A pediatrician treats 'children' until they reach maturity.
liz askew Jul 12, 2011:
My point is 1. The first site describes "infanto-juvenil" from 0-18 years, so this would necessarily include adolescents.

Muriel Vasconcellos Jul 12, 2011:
@Mike As I pointed out below, while your definition is correct in everyday language, in medicine the adjective "infantil" usually refers to the first year of life, as in "mortalidad infantil". This is not always true, but generally. It's a problem. Here the author has gone on the add "juvenil", which is the medical equivalent of 'juvenile' - again, not the same as in everyday language, where the noun 'juvenile' in English is roughly equivalent to 'youths'.
The point is that the adjectives in medicine have taken on specialized meanings not shared with the nouns or in everyday speech.
Michael Powers (PhD) Jul 12, 2011:
"infancia" from birth to 11 or 12 years old Quite of "infancia" starts at birth and goes all the way to purberty. Reference:

agree Richard Boulter : While 'complications' could fit here, it could also invite misunderstanding.

Thank you, Richard - Mike
neutral liz askew : I have revised my thinking on this.

My logic is since "infancia" by itself means "childhood" and "infancy" is either "primera infancia" or "tierna infancia" all aspects of "childhood" are already covered by "infanto" - so "asolescence" is what is left for "juvenil" ("young"). Mike

Good suggestion - thank you Mike
neutral Muriel Vasconcellos : I agree with Liz - probably not about adolescents. I understand your reasoning and it's tricky. However, in medicine "infantil" usually refers to the first year of life - e.g., "mortalidad infantil".

Issues in Childhood and Youth Asthma

Otra sugerencia nomás. Eso sí, me inclinaría por traducir esp. 'juvenil' a ingl. 'youth', ya que no se alínea perfectamente esp. 'juvenil' con ingl. 'adolescent' - un chico de 10, 11, 12 años puede fácilmente no ser aún adolescente, pero sí pensarse y mencionarse como ´joven', de ahí 'juvenil'. challenges of/dealing with infant and child asthma

I don't think it's about adolescents or 'early childhood' - just plain childhood.
