French term

calque

French to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Haute couture dress making
Hi there,

I am translating a text describing the steps followed when making a haute couture dress. I´m don´t know how to translate "calque" in the following dressmaking context:

*ATELIERS XXXX

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

see also this textile-related web site... that also uses the term "sur un calque"

Unfortunately, the pictures aren´t clear at all, but seems to be some kind of template.

I'm not sure there is a single translation that will fit all cases, but grid will certainly fit some. You're talking here of a grid, a pattern, a template, a background, a lattice, a trace ... It may well be that a different term is needed each time
Peer comment(s):

agree B D Finch : You have certainly taken several bites of the cherry. I agree with "pattern".

Thanks. That's certainly the term my mother used to use, but she was no great seamstress
