Hola tengo dudas acerca del nombre del siguiente término en español:"The contrast between the British and American situations can be illustrated by an adaptation of Haugen's image of the sociolinguistic Hierarchy as a layer cake".

Personalmente evitaría reproducir la metáfora ya que en castellano no funciona bien (al menos en España) y la sustituiraia por significado.

i.e.: ... adaptando la imagen de Haugen sobre las capas jerarquicas de la sociolinguistica".
