French term

film journalier

French to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting Radiographic examination
Anybody know what this means? "daily film" doesn't do it for me.
PMC = process monitoring control and a PMC strip is "a tool for monitoring the quality of the film processing system and for proving compliance with existing standards on systems classifications".

Why "journalier"

Discussion

Mehdi Caps Sep 10, 2011:
I would translate:
'films étalon (PMC Strip)' > 'test films (PMC Strips)'
'film journalier (PMC Strip)' > 'daily PMC Strip' or 'daily test film (PMC Strip)'
Mehdi Caps Sep 10, 2011:
claude-andrew "It still looks fishy - they're asking for the check with the PMC strip to be done when the T and humidity limits are exceeded, not necessarily daily."

There is still a daily PMC strip, though, I think. Every month they check the "radiogrammes" and, if some values are beyond the limits, they verify the quality of the "radiogrammes" with the "films étalon (PMC Strip)" of the days in question.

I suggest that 'film journalier' is a figment of the imagination of the author of the French text.

is verified by means of the PMC Strip.

The term in English is "PMC strip", which is: "An X-ray pre-exposed strip for PMC produced under controlled conditions..."

http://oniko.ua/en/ndt/?SECTION_ID=438&ELEMENT_ID=2157 says:
X-ray pre-exposed film strips
These X-ray pre-exposed film strips are produced under Agfa’s Quality Management System (Q.M.S) conditions according to ISO 9001-2000. And there's a pic (with text in Russian :( )

Why "journalier"

The purpose of these PMC strips is to:
[ ... ]
• Be used ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS to provide control data as part of a quality management system (e.g. ISO 001- 2000

Note from asker:
Bravo for the detective work! It still looks fishy - they're asking for the check with the PMC strip to be done when the T and humidity limits are exceeded, not necessarily daily. I wonder if the author got his "journalier" idea from the same website as this one? Think I'll have to ask the client.
Peer comments on this reference comment:

agree Jennifer Levey : OK - inasmuch as 'on a day to day basis' means 'as and when required/appropriate/circumstances dictate', and not 'every day without fail'.
