Spanish term

Chimenea

Spanish to English Marketing Marketing / Market Research POP material
Hi everyone

I have a list of different types of POP material and one is called "chimenea". It is a body which breaks up the normal supermarket aisle/gondola, used for one product/brand and making the product contained in the body stand out from the rest of the shelving. Any idea what that could be in English?

Many thanks!

Penny

stack/stak/Noun: A pile of objects, typically one that is neatly arranged: "a stack of boxes".
Also the main part of a chimney, which may (or may not) have some relation to the Spanish term.
Peer comment(s):

agree Charles Davis : Some of us can't see the wood for the trees! If this had another fancy name I reckon I'd have found it by now.

LOL I'm afraid it's just a case of "here's one I made earlier" ;)

agree philgoddard : It may be coincidence, but of course chimneys have stacks.

Cheers Phil, although I thought the odds were (ahem) stacked against me on this one...

Pyramid

The products are presented in the form of a Pyramid, with the bottom layer large and the top layer small.
Peer comment(s):

agree Neil Ashby : From Penelope's description I think this is a good term. We certainly use the term for the description given but maybe there are more / or supermarket specific technical jargon! :@)

neutral Benjamin A Flores : este es en punta de góndola, se necesita un termino para el medio.

stand-alone display

If it is only one product or brand, it could also be a dedicated stand-alone display.

Reference:

"Efecto chimenea": but what's it called?

As Penelope says, "chimenea" refers to a display which makes a product stand out by breaking up the lines of shelving in the middle of a gondola:

"El efecto chimenea pretende romper con la monotonía de los lineales y consiste en una presentación masiva del producto como si se tratase de una cabecera de góndola emplazada en el lineal."

There's a drawing accompanying this description which shows it as a vertical area without shelves in the middle of a section of gondola shelving. A slightly different version of the same idea is the "cambio de nivel":

"El cambio de nivel pretende llamar la atención del cliente, fundamentalmente para resaltar las propiedades de un producto nuevo. Consiste en cambiar las alturas de los estantes en una zona del lineal, consiguiendo reducir el efecto rail del expositor."

But I can't find the term for it in English. Here is an extensive glossary of supermarket display jargon, but it doesn't seem to contain a term for this effect:

agree neilmac : I call it a "stack display" or "display stack" and nobody's ever complained.

As simple as that? Well, there you go.
