pare si tratti di un tipo di misurazione che avviene a 90° (perpendicolarmente) rispetto alla superficie che si vuole misurare. prova a controllare la definizione al link sotto che mi sembra centri il contesto. ma non ho trovato molte occorrenze in italiano!
