Huxley wurde am 26. Juli 1894 in Godalming bei London geboren und besuchte das Eton College sowie zwischen 1913 und 1915 die Universität Oxford. Nach seinem Studium war er für mehrere Zeitschriften tätig und veröffentlichte vier Gedichtbände, darunter "The Burning Wheel" (1916). 1921 erschien sein satirisches Romandebüt "Crome Yellow" ("Eine Gesellschaft auf dem Lande", auch: "Chromgelb"); ihm folgten "Antic Hay" (1923, "Narrenreigen")
