French term

dépoter

French to English Other Slang
I am translating a document about tattoo art, and this came up. I cannot figure out what it means. I would appreciate your help. This is part of the profile of one of the tattoo artists. Thanks!

An American who lives in the fast lane and make no bones about it
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : I think the Harrap's suggestions are a bit colourless, but "lives life in the fast lane" is good.

thanks Phil
agree Just Opera : the idea is to go after something intensely. i.e. 'goes at full tilt' is what I would say.

to really go like mad

I've heard it used with this sort of sense about cars that go fast and are 'the biz', and also for things like powerful ingredients (also 'déboîter')

I'll leave it to you to find just the right term that could be applied to a tatooer!

'goes at it tooth and nail', perhaps — though maybe a bit too dated for your context, and after all, a slightly different idiom.

How about 'really gives it all he's got'?

a go-getter

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/go-getter

dépoter vient du jargon du transport, il s'agit littéralement de décharger un conteneur.
en language populaire c'est quelqu'un qui dégage beaucoup d'énérgie et travaille rapidement.
Someone who gets the job done and doesn't play around.

not that I don't like the other suggestions, but this came to mind

I also thought of ' who rocks' - but rather too free I fear!

to live on the edge : to have a type of life in which you are often involved in exciting or dangerous activities
Peer comment(s):

agree ormiston : I prefer 'living on the edge' if what follows indeed describes the American rather than the tattoo artist
