I would see this as they are including the items at a prorated level. That is, if they cost 100 USD new and are now 10 weeks old, they are no longer worth the new price, but some lower value.
Kind of like when you take tires back because you had a blowout, the store usually rebates a prorated value for the tire you turn in based on tread wear.
