Hi all,
I'm translating a report on an atypical finding in a doping control in a footballer. The report is half medical, half doping legalese. A player's urine sample was labelled as code X, it was tested and then the Spanish Comisión de Control y Seguimiento de la Salud y el Dopaje matched the code with the player.
... otro resultado analítico anómalo ... en la muestra código 123. Una vez procedido a su ***descodificación*** por la Comisión se constata que ambos resultados pertenecen a XYZ.
If it were a clinical trial, I would be happy to say "After the Commission had unblinded the sample" or "broke the code" but in sport, I'm not sure if it would be better to say "decoded". However, I can't find evidence on the Internet for "decoding".
Does anyone know how to say this in English (UK)? Please back up answers with references!

What's wrong with the direct translation? The results have a code to preserve anonymity, so they decode this to establish who it corresponds to.

I'm wondering whether you need a term for this at all. Perhaps you could say "checked the code against the records/database and found that...". Or perhaps just say "identified both samples as belonging to".
