Deed of sale - property description
Trying to fathom this description and not getting very far. After consulting proZ glossaries I thought this was a 6-storey building but there seem to be a lot of Combles at this property.
Context: "Dans un immeuble sis à [name of town], Place XXX numéro 2 et Montée XXX numéro 3 et 5 élevé sur rez de chaussée cotée [name of street] de six étages sous combles (rez-de-chaussée Place XXX) et d'un étage sous combles et cinq sous-sols cadastrée Section XXXX"
Can anyone help? I promise to stick to Italian deeds of sale in the future.

Without knowing the exact nature of the floor, I'd avoid the word 'attics' which suggests small flats as 'sous combles' is often the opposite in the form of a large loft
Sometimes the 'sous combles' is habitable (loft or attics) but at other times, it is used for machinery like where I live (air extractor fans and elevator lifting mechanisms)
PS 'combles' is always in the plural so don't take the plural to mean 'attics' automatically

: 'rafters' would be skewing the meaning too much, and 'combles' usually means 'combles perdus', i.e. NOT usable space; hence suggesting there is an attic 'floor' is almost certainly over-translation.

Given the potentially wide range of uses - storage, office, accommodation - then "attic sapce" might be sufficiently accurate in its description yet sufficiently wide to cover a number of possibilities. You often see "with attic space above" which makes me laugh as it is not exactly something you would expect beneath.

One must guard against over-translation here, since the use of the word 'combles' strongly suggests this is not a usable (or at any rate habitable) space. Unless, of course, there is something in your wider context to refute this...

It seems clear that this property comprises several buildings (possibly adjoining), and it seems they each have their own attic — as is common enough, of course, in the case of conversions / refurbishments.

It sounds to me as if perhaps this is a steeply-sloping site, so on one side the top floor is at street level (and hence all the others are sub-floors), and on the other, the bottom floor is at street level (and all the others are thus storeys above). Presumably, therefore, all but the very top floor will have windows on one façade only.
One must guard against over-translation here, since the use of the word 'combles' strongly suggests this is not a usable (or at any rate habitable) space. Unless, of course, there is something in your wider context to refute this...
