Spanish term

Zancos

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) Dredging machinery
Este equipo iba a lanzar la draga al embalse y permitir la instalacion de los *zancos*, siempre que el nivel del embalse fuera lo suficientemente alto.

This word has me completely stumped. It appears in business correspondence from a utility in Costa Rica and the translation is for the US. Any guidance will be much appreciated!

Discussion

Thanks for your help. After further research and discussion with the client, I'm going with spuds: Zancos con facilidades de inclinación o inclinador de zanco( conocido este termino en idioma ingles como titiling facilities for spuds).

It certainly could... ...in the US. Elsewhere (at least for sure, In Britain) it would be ANCHORS

and "spuds" may mean many things:

SPUD
Slang. A potato.
A sharp spadelike tool used for rooting or digging out weeds.
A short section of pipe or a threaded fitting that completes a connection, as between a longer pipe and a nozzle, valve, or meter.

tr.v., spud·ded, spud·ding, spuds.

To remove with a sharp spadelike tool.
To begin drilling operations on: spud an oil well.

And as far as I can see above, not a single one of the definitions bear any relation with the meaning given to it in your reference:

Walking the Dredge Spuds

On pipeline and mechanical dredges, the spuds are the two large metal posts located on the stern of the barge. The dredge is held in place during dredging by sinking the spuds into the bottom of the waterway. During dredging operations, the dredge "walks" through the work area by picking up one spud and pivoting up one spud and pivoting around the other.

Could the correct term be spuds? I just found this link: http://education.usace.army.mil/navigation/lessons/6/dredgel...
