Sep 19, 2012 06:46: Tony M changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): cc in nyc, SJLD, Tony M

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

SJLD Sep 19, 2012:
after some quick googling I discovered that "ouverture" in French refers to a "pas de côté" - side step. And there is a "salida americana"

Salida Americana
This where the embrace opens on the open side so that the couple are walking side by side rather than face to face.

@ccnyc no idea and no (more) time to spend here

@ writeaway Or is it the ballet step, ouverture de jambe – which I suppose might also be done in tango. I'll post a reference.

À moins que l'on ne dise : American ouverture [de jambe]. Mais je n'ai aucune idée comment cela se distingue d'une ouverture française.
cc in nyc Sep 19, 2012:
« Non, je ne connais pas... » Quelle est la suite ?
Robert Aubut (asker) Sep 19, 2012:
phrase complète « On va commencer par les pieds joints ensemble, et on va faire une ouverture, comme une ouverture américaine; vous connaissez? »
cc in nyc Sep 18, 2012:
Bienvenue au forum, Robert ! Pourriez-vous nous indiquer la phrase complète, svp? ;-)

Promenade (sweetheart walk) opening

Walking by facing the same direction and stepping forward. This resembles a walk in the park by sweethearts (except they may hold their hands together whereas in tango the embrace is preserved).

American open position

Or the open position in American tango. Based on the following:

IThe Tango's frame, called an abrazo or "embrace," is not rigid, but flexibly adjusts to different steps, and may vary from being quite close, to offset in a "V" frame, to open. The flexibility is as important as is all movement in dance. The American Ballroom Tango's frame is flexible too, but experienced dancers frequently dance in closed position: higher in the elbows, tone in the arms and constant connection through the body. When dancing socially with a beginners, however, it may be better to use a more open position because the close position is too intimate for them. In American Tango open position may result in open breaks, pivots, and turns which are quite foreign in Argentine tango and International (English) tango.

ouverture de jambe

First, form the online French dico:

ouverture
2. Spécialement
DANSE. L'ouverture de jambe se rapproche beaucoup du rond de jambe mais, tandis que ce dernier se prend par un développé et se fait lentement, l'ouverture de jambe se fait d'un trait.
(Meunier, Danse class., 1931, p.207).

Can't cut & paste the French, but I sent the following rough translation to dancer-fried who may be able to help:
OUVERTURE DE JAMBE. The ouverture de jambe is none other than grand rond de jambe executed "outside" or "inside," but it begins slightly differently, so that the dancer may execute it more rapidly. The leg that does the work is tendue in fourth, either to the front or to the back, while executing a grand battement and, without stopping, rapidly executes a complete inside or outside grand rond de jambe. It will be noted that these are two distinct but related movements; but, since this type of rond de jambe is done fairly often, to simplify directions, the sequence is considered a single step with a unique profile character, and is called "ouverture de jambe." Nevertheless, the technical points of the two movements must be retained.
