“empresas comerciales”

Hello Sagitario14:

Your question is about the translation to Spanish of the expression “business ventures” on the context: “Bachelor of Business (Food Entrepreneurship) - This degree will help graduates to access opportunities and then turn them into innovative business ventures.”

ANALYSIS:

In my research of technical terminology about these terms, I found that some dictionaries translate the 2 terms together with a different meaning that they translate each term separately. VERY IMPORTANT!

For example, Collins English Spanish Bilingual Dictionary (1) and Reverso Dictionary (2) both translate the 2 terms together “business” + “venture”: “business venture” like: “empresa commercial”.

Your expression is “business ventures” (plural)

Linguee Editorial Dictionary also suggests the expressión “empresas comerciales” in one of the options similar to your case. (3)

TRANSLATION:

After all the research, I think that is appropriate to translate “(innovative) business ventures” like “(innovativas) empresas comerciales”.

MY PROPOSAL:

For the previous explanation, my suggestion is:

- “empresas comerciales”

I hope this analysis helps you in your work.

Regards

Domingo

REMARKS:

This expression “business ventures” give the opportunity to make different translations depending of the imagination and “taste” of the translator because “business” and “ventures” as independent terms have a long list of the meanings. But personally, I don’t want to reinvent the wheel when authorities in the translations like Collins Dictionary translate the two terms together “business venture” like: “empresa commercial”.

Frequently, in the translation of professional concepts we cannot translate term by term and after that put all together. We have translate according to the main concepts.

By the way, “empresa commercial” implies more than “emprendimientos empresariales” and is more specific than “negocios”.

Domingo

negocios

Me gustó mucho "espíritu emprendedor". Gracias!!! :)
Peer comment(s):

agree Mónica Algazi : Solo que no traduciría "entrepreneurship" como "emprendimiento", sino como "espíritu emprendedor".
