Cheers, Jenni :)
neutral Andrew Bramhall : From the context it could be talking about a cake or a dessert, though.//Yeah, you're probably right; how about "spiced up" aftertaste? seems nearer the true meaning to me somehow.

It could, but it sounds very like wine to me. And I think that even it is actually food, 'aftertaste' would still work. See refs. // Another reason why I believe it's referring to wine is because it says 'en nariz' - very common term in wine tasting.

with a hint of (coconut and liquorice)

I wouldn't translate 'especiado' directly here as 'spicy'.You could use something like 'ripe' to convey that sense though, if you wishes. But coconut and liquorice aren't considered 'spicy' in rhe anglophone world.

shot through with lingering after-notes of...

I think "shot through" can deal with the idea of "especiado" here - those are not "spicy" flavours as such, but they impart their flavour in the manner of a spice.

And I do think you need to catch the retrospective sense of "recuerdo" - hence lingering after-notes.

agree philgoddard : This is very good, and I agree with your points about "recuerdo" and "especiado", which you could also translate as "spiced", ie "given added interest". Coconut and licorice aren't spicy.
