Spanish term

ala

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Systems, Networks
Hello. I am translating a document on converting bytes for identication in one system into a different system. One "ala" is 3 bytes = 8 digit integer (it wouldn't be nibble, which is 3 bits, not 3 bytes)

I have thought it may just be grouping or set??? I would very much appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

It looks like the word has been coined for this particular context - hence the quotation marks - so you could call it what you like within reason. "Side" would be one possibility; "half" is another.

neutral philgoddard : I don't understand your explanation. Also, the identifier is itself a string, so this could cause confusion.

As in west wing/east wing...
BTW I've just coined this myself so I don't know if it will (ahem) fly...

I tend to agree with the neutral about "string", which is usually "cadena" in Spanish in this context and could lead to confusion.
Note from asker:
I like the pun! But whoever IMO is, I decided something like side was better, ended up using string...
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Yes, I think this works. I also suggested "half" or "side".

Cheers Phil. I think "side" would work fine too IMO ;)
