Hi everyone!

I'm looking for an equally concise and clever way to say this in English. The context is marketing tips on how to arrange your merchandise in a store to maximize sales. Of course, we are talking about making the product visible to the client so that they may be tempted to buy it.

Otherwise I'll be forced to use a very lame-sounding "If it's not seen it's not sold" (contractions and all-gasp!)

Got anything with more UMPH than that? I'd love to hear it!

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Even those that were, shall we say, “a little off” were helpful because they provided “brain fodder” that helped me to look at the concepts involved and how they were viewed by different minds from a different angle. BTW I haven't awarded any "neutral" ratings, but the ones I haven't "agreed" with so far would get a "meh" from me (= less damning than a "neutral", means I'm just not crazy about them).

PRO/Non-PRO I agree with Steven. Probably most non-English speaking people could come up with an understandable equivalent in English (translation of the words) but that is quite different from coming up with the best MARKETING translation, short and snappy (with UMPH); the asker is obviously a professional translator, just as obviously knew the equivalent on his own and was asking for suggestions for the best answer in this context. Precisely this kind of "polish" and in-depth English knowledge is what ProZ (professionals) should be best at... and their expertise should be rewarded by getting the points as a PRO question. I’d like to thank you all for your excellent suggestions. You have all helped me a great deal in evaluating this little quandary quite thoroughly. I was going to grade this KudoZ but noticed that there is a matched vote on whether this KudoZ should be graded as PRO or as Non-PRO points, and the last vote (for PRO, I might add) came in just a few hours ago…

Personally, and based on my knowledge and experience, not only on languages but also on cultures, some that I am fortunate to know quite intimately, I believe this should be a PRO points question. The difficulty here is not in translating the words, but the impact that the message has on a particular “language-culture.” This may be a subtlety that may not be very obvious to some, but based on some of your own answers and comments, I believe most of us, if not all, do see, understand and appreciate that very subtlety. Now just because this is an issue of linguistic and cultural subtleties, does not mean that it is an unimportant matter, in fact it may be the thing that makes our own translations stand out and be valued more than those of others, at least in the eyes of our end customers. Need I say more?

PRO/Non-PRO (2 of 2) However, as the asker, I cannot vote on changing this question back to PRO. (I started this KudoZ as a PRO points question, it is obvious how I stand.) So, believing that this kind of effort deserves PRO points, and since the last vote on this matter was but recently submitted and thus it may yet be an active concern, I have decided to wait another 24 hours, not only to see if any more answerers show up but also, to give others a chance to vote on the PRO/Non-PRO issue.

In any case, I will grade this Kudoz tomorrow, either as PRO points or as Non-PRO points. I leave it up to you, since you are the ones who have actually done the work, what sort of points ought to be assigned to the winning answerer.
