Glossary entry (derived from question below)
English term or phrase:
Bayou
Spanish translation:
el Bayou (región de Luisiana)-el bayou/los bayous (elemento geográfico típico de esa región)
English term
Bayou
¿Alguien puede decirme si existe un término para esto en español?
Creo que es específico de Louisiana.
A bayou is a term for a body of water typically found in flat, low-lying area, and can refer either to an extremely slow-moving stream or river or to a marshy lake or wetland. Bayous are commonly found in the Gulf Coast region of the southern United States, notably the Mississippi River region, with the state of Louisiana being famous for them.
Gracias de antemano.

Discussion
I think it has to be left as "bayou". It's a specific local feature. The context defines it quite precisely, so there's no need for further explanation.
