Don't know the official term in EN, if one exists — but that's what it means: when you accept something 'with reservations' due to apparent damage etc.

You know, that old instruction "All good should be signed for as 'unexamined' unless..."

Thanks T! sounds about right - it's just a confirmation that you've reported it usually (whilst your suitcase goes shooting off to Malawi although you were only travelling from Manchester to Edinburgh)
