Spanish term

SNG a derivación

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) nasogastric tube
Mexican report on a critically ill patient who suffered traumatic brain injury.
SNG, which must be nasogastric tube "a derivación" sin gasto hemático.
So I get that there's no blood in the tube but I can't figure out "a derivación"

NG tube on (free) drainage

I think "derivación" means that the tube has been connected to a drainage bag. It's probably being left on free drainage (i.e., using gravity) as there's no mention of suction.

Conectar la sonda a la fuente de succión o derivación o, si es su indicación, proceder al lavado gástrico o a la infusión del fármaco o alimento

agree Charles O'Donnell : Agreed. I am working on a similar document, from Mexico, of a TBI case, and they use the same phrase.

NG decompression tube

Could it be a nasogastric tube inserted to deviate gas and secretions from the stomach, in order to avoid the build-up of pressure in the abdomen and acid reflux/aspirations from the stomach. This is done in critically ill patients because their gastric emptying is often delayed (or not working at all).
