Otra opción. En el contexto, el silencio es como un río, y creo que queda muy bien traducir 'levee' aquí con 'esclusa', porque funciona como una boca que se puede abrir para dejar pasar, o al contrario, cerrarla para parar el agua.
Por supuesto 'levee' no es literalmente 'esclusa', sino dique o atracadero, pero el lenguaje es bastante poetico y metafórico.

: “Dique”, di que sí... pero en este contexto, “esclusa” me parece idóneo... así que no hay “exclusa” ;-) para no usar esta excelente solución. :-)
