French term

situation d'apprentissage

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Apprenticeship plasterer
This should not be hard but I am a little puzzled by the meaning. This is in an extensive list of abilities of a trainer at level EQF 5

Guider les apprentis dans l'analyse d'**une situation d'apprentissage**.

Dos this mean they should be helped in analysing their training position? But what does that exactly mean? It sounds very fuzzy to me. As always all help welcome.

Discussion

YorickJenkins (asker) Jan 31, 2015:
But what does it really mean? I accept the point about the difference between "learning" and "apprenticeship" which are two possible renderings of "apprentissage" but I still feel that the meaning of either is very fuzzy. What IS a learning or an apprenticeship "situation"? I do not understand what happens when a trainer "analyses a learning (or apprenticeship) situation and I am always distrustful of chosing translation options which I do not myself undertsand the meaning of. Could one not write "an anlalysis of the training course"?

Note from asker:
These were very helpful links. The description from the links points to a learning scenario, rather than a learning situation. Now I understand. I do think learning situation is misleading in English and it should be scenario but I would not have got their without your help. Many thanks.
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : I think the asker may be confusing the two meanings of "apprentisage": "apprenticeship" and "learning". Here, it presumably means a situation at work where a lesson is learned.
