Благородный пансион

Russian to English Art/Literary History
Hi, I'm translating a short text about Glinka, who was sent to the Благородный пансион при Главном педагогическом институте as a boy. I'm having trouble coming up with a good translation for the name of the school - if it's пансион для благородных девиц, I would choose "finishing school" or the like, but that's not appropriate here. And clearly it's a school for children of the nobility, but I can't very well write "Noble School". Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Boarding School for the Nobility

This is both the meaning and a common way to translate it.

agree The Misha : It does sound a little wacky, but it googles and is apparently in use. I am convinced.

Exactly my feeling: a bit wacky, but not really any wackier than the same in Russian. I guess it just looks politically incorrect today :-)
agree Rachel Douglas : This is used in many history books.

neutral The Misha : Ahem... For your own sake, I hope you realize that the link you gave is to a horrendously translated nonnative source.

At the age of 13, Glinka went to the capital, Saint Petersburg, to study at a school for children of the nobility. Here he learned Latin, English, and Persian, studied mathematics and zoology, and considerably widened his musical experience. He had three piano lessons from John Field, the Irish composer of nocturnes, who spent some time in Saint Petersburg. He then continued his piano lessons with Charles Meyer, and began composing.
