English term

entrepreneurial businesses

English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
Occurs multiple times in a lengthy CV of an apparently highly successful Channel Islands finance specialist, but not much context really; one achievement of the bloke was to "'corporatize' entrepreneurial businesses and rationalize poor business units". Does it really mean anything more than an enterprise or a business or is it just a word supposed to impress and perplex me because I can't grasp the purpose of this combination of the two words?

Discussion

Sheila Wilson May 30, 2015:
It does have a meaning He's turning companies essentially based around one wo/man's dreams and energies into corporations that will survive even without their founder at the helm 24/7.

English term (edited): entrepreneurial business
Selected

start-up business

This 'bloke' has apparently helped 'start-up' businesses progress to/towards 'corporate' status.

Think Steve Jobs --> Apple, for example. Or Bill Gates --> M$.

neutral AllegroTrans : I am not sure; this may be too restrictive, the businesses concerned may have been operating (say as sole traders) for some time; I think the emphasis here is on innovative/ambitious etc.

disagree Lara Barnett : I agree with AllegroTrans, an "Entrepreneurial business" does not necessarily have to be a "start-up".
