@ Sandra & Kenneth Dear colleagues, it is true that, in every field of social life, such phenomena are more and more frequent, in my opinion, due to a continuously simplified - I would rather say "dismantled" - language form induced by the Media, the social networks, the advertising and, last but not least, the mobile-phone "telegraph-style" language. This globalized trend implies a core question for us, translators, and even for th school teachers: should we follow the mainstream or should we insist in defending the logical structure of the language, any language, to prevent its evolution towards a kind of "novlang" - G. Orwell had pointed out this danger in his novel, "1984" with a deep awareness.

évoluer le contrôle Reminds me of "progressing the issue", which has become endemic in corporate speak, and possibly the rule rather than the exception.

@ Tara Salman Bonjour chère collègue ! J'ai la puce à l'oreille car je me demande s'il ne s'agit pas d'une faute de frappe qui a transformé le verbe "évaluer" en "évoluer". Le sens serait nettement plus logique si la question était formulée ainsi : "Comment évaluez-vous le contrôle ou la réponse ?" En effet il me semble qu'il s'agit d'évaluer la réponse du - ou des - patient(s) aux trois types de traitement contre l'épilepsie. Par conséquent, la version anglaise, serait : "How do you assess the treatment's performance or the patient's response to them?"

Massacre grammatical ! "Comment évoluez-vous le contrôle ou la réponse ?" J'hallucine ! (comme diraient mes élèves) Le verbe évoluer est intransitif et ne peut donc pas admettre de C.O.D. C'est pourquoi, on doit employer le verbe faire comme auxiliaire et dire "faire évoluer quelque chose". Par exemple, on peut dire : "Les mentalités ont évolué grâce à l'école" . Mais on ne peut pas dire : "L'école a évolué les mentalités" ! On doit dire : "L'école a fait évoluer les mentalités" De même que :
- La crise a fait monter le chômage, non "la crise a monté le chômage"
- La franchise du nouveau pape fait tomber les masques, non "La franchise... tombe les masques"

On the grounds that I have explained in my discussion entry, I believe that there must be a typo having changed the verbe "évaluez-vous" in "évoluez-vous" which is a grammatical mistake, since, in French, the verbe "évoluer" is non-transitive. Thus, we can't say: "Comment évoluez-vous" but: "Comment faites-vous évoluer".

- How do you assess the treatment' efficiency..." in order to avoid any confusion between the meaning of "performance" as the execution of a task and the outcome of the treatment's action on the patients.

- It seems to me that, in this context, the noun "control" is not the equivalent of the core meaning of the French "contrôle" (= check-in, inspection, verification...) but that of its medical area connotation: a clinical condition resulting from a treatment's action, in which the average symptom's level is brought back to an acceptable grade.

Surely, the above reference contains the verb but the connotation "maîtrise des symptômes" can be expressed by the noun as well.

- Here is another reference using the noun "control" with the meaning of "improvement", "return to an acceptable level":
