French term

serveurs redondante à chaud

French to English Tech/Engineering Computers (general) computer systems
Hi everyone
I have another question from my set of articles dealing with automation in the pharmaceutical industry. This question relates to the expansion/updating of automated control in a plasma fractionation facility.

Cette nouvelle architecture a ete pensee pour assurer une haute disponibilite en travaillant sur trois axes :
• -La mise en place d’une redondance pour toutes les ressources applicatives SCADA
• -Une refection complete de l’infrastructure reseau du site (avec bouclages multiples des baies de brassage par fibres optiques)
• -La mise en service d’une infrastructure de virtualisation des serveurs redondante a chaud fonctionnellement et geographiquement.

I am struggling with the translation of the last sentence. At the moment I have ‘The commissioning of a functionally and geographically redundant hot standby server virtualization infrastructure’.

Any help/feedback much appreciated.

Hi Phil - thanks I did realise that redondante qualified infrastructure - I assumed that its meaning was implicit in hot standby - I wasn't aware of the term 'hot redundant' - thanks I'll take a look at your link.

I think you may be parsing the sentence wrongly - it's "infrastructure redondante" rather than ""serveurs redondante".

I suggest:
"The creation of a virtual server infrastructure that is functionally and geographically hot redundant."

Here's a definition of "hot redundant":

"Some processes require less intervention (cold redundancy - a pump failure on a holding tank) while some cannot tolerate any failures or delays (hot redundancy - communication systems processor failures)."

Comment: "Hi Phil, This really isn't my area, but I translate for a quarterly life sciences publication and on this occasion the articles were all about computerisation in the pharma industry. So many thanks for your input, I hadn't located the expression 'hot redundant'. Sue "

Redundant hot standby server

The commissioning of a functionally and geographically redundant hot standby server for a virtualization infrastructure / Your translation is ok, just add the preposition 'for a'
Example sentence:

The commissioning of a functionally and geographically redundant hot standby server for a virtualization infrastructure / Your translation is ok, just add the preposition 'for a'

neutral philgoddard : No, it doesn't say "standby", and you've got the words in the wrong order.
