laps

English to Polish Tech/Engineering Other
(magnetic particle test)

This magnetic flux leakage attracts the magnetic particles, put onto the part previously or immediately after the magnetic field application, allowing the discontinuity to be revealed, generally by use of wood light lamp.

In addition to cracks, the inspection can detect seams, laps and non-metallic inclusions that extend both to the surface and subsurface.

Discussion

Frank Szmulowicz, Ph. D. Jun 25, 2016:
Cold lap or also called as cold shut. It is a crack with round edges. Cold lap is because of low melting temperature or poor gating system.

Cold lap is a condition where the weld filler metal does not properly fuse with the base metal or the previous weld pass material (interpass cold lap). The arc does not melt the base metal sufficiently and causes the slightly molten puddle to flow into the base material without bonding.

Uzyskane wyniki umożliwiły wykonanie odkuwek bez wad kuźniczych i jednocześnie z maksymalnym uzyskiem materiału.

EN In the work a full analysis of the multi-impression forging process of very complex forging from a group of surgical instruments manufactured from the Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy was carried out. The kinetics of the metal flow and causes of defects occurrence such as overlaps and laps was estimated. Based on forging tests the defects morphology was characterized and possible causes of their occurrence were indicated. The obtained results allowed one to make forgings without forging defects and at the same time with a maximum charge yield.
