I am translating a technical instruction from a firm supplying electronic components for vehicles and other equipment. It states;
Il existe 5 causes de création de caisses incomplètes (which I think is incomplete bodywork/body sections);
one of these is:
En cas de *rupture d’indice* dûe à une évolution majeure d’un composant.
Elsewhere in the document indice is translated by the TM as version, though this refers to version of a document rather than vehicular components. Could it mean something like – significant change to a model caused by a major change in a component? or something completely different?
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Per the usual numbering system of major version/minor release, "indice" could be understood as the major version number, and "rupture" as a change, but most French writers should not use "rupture" for a change from 7 to 8 for example, only from 7 to 9 or else?
It seems to me as if somewhere along the line something may of got missed out / overlooked.
