Catalan term

pellería

Catalan to English Social Sciences History 14th-century Valencian
I'm working on a historical text that refers to a fire during the lower middle ages. It burned down an area in Valencia "desde la esquina de la Puerta Nueva hasta la esquina de la calle que va a la Merced, por casa de en Bayona, y todo el Trench, por la mitad de la Pelleria hasta la Carnicería" (quote is from a contemporary historical chronicle). Pellería and Carnicería refer to the divisions of the city by trade. Is this the furriers' or tanners' area? TIA.

No prob, Sheila I'm just confirming, since I'm no Catalan/Valencian expert. Thanks a bunch!

tannery

Yes, I'd say it was the area where the tanneries were located. Cf. the definitions given in the DCVB. Definition 2 would fit your context (botiga o lloc on treballen els pellers).

Sorry, in the answer above I should have said 'tannery district' or something similar.
